Level Beginner

MODELING OF A CLAY MASK

Learn how to sculpt a clay mask from scratch, developing all the fundamental techniques of artistic clay mask sculpting. The course will teach you how to prepare the clay, create the basic shape of the face, define facial details (such as eyes, nose and lips) and refine the surface for a professional finish. Apart from modeling techniques, you will discover how to bring the face to life, both with textures and finishes to distinguish different styles.

CREATION OF A SILICONE MOLD

In this course we will learn the whole process to create a silicone mold with a plaster mold from an original piece of clay. We will properly prepare the plaster, apply the different layers on the silicone and give the counter mold the necessary thickness and stability. We will also see how to unmould the original piece, clean and lower the voravius, prepare the mold for casting and make a first copy in plaster. Finally, we will learn how to remove the copy without damaging it, check for possible bubbles and let it dry before applying a patina. A practical course to understand how flexible molds work and learn how to make reproductions in plaster or other casting materials.

AUTUMN PATINA WITH GOLDEN TOUCHES

You will learn how to transform a piece of plaster with a warm, aged patina, inspired by autumn tones. We will prepare the surface with shellac and apply transparent layers of ochre, pumpkin and brown to give color to the face, strengthen the volumes and highlight the veins of the leaves. We will also work with Bitumen of Judea to deepen shadows, reliefs and textures, and add small touches of gold paint using the dry brush technique to bring light and contrast. Finally, we will protect the piece with satin spray varnish to intensify the colors and achieve a balanced and durable finish.

BLUE PATINA WITH COPPER TOUCHES

In this course, we will learn how to patinate a clay mask using shellac as a base, layers of bitumen of Judea, and acrylic paints to create depth and volume in the face. We will add metallic copper accents to highlight raised areas and details, and apply a final coat of varnish to protect the piece, enhance its luminosity, and leave it ready for display.

IRON PATINA WITH OXIDE EFFECT

You will learn how to transform a cement, plaster or resin mask using an iron patina with an aged and oxidized appearance. We will prepare the piece with shellac, apply successive layers of brown and blue acrylic paint to create depth, and incorporate an oxide effect paint with iron shavings to obtain texture and orange hues. We will work on the volumes of the face, transparencies and color transitions with dotted brush strokes, strengthening the most prominent areas and keeping the deep parts darker. Finally, we will protect the surface with spray varnish and observe the finished result, with a rustic, metallic effect and full of nuances.

POLYCHROME PATINA

You will learn how to transform a plaster, cement or resin mask using a polychrome patina built in layers. We will prepare the surface with shellac and work with different acrylic tones—pumpkin, blue, yellow, green and red—to create warm and cold contrasts, give depth to the face and integrate the decorative leaves with the rest of the piece. Throughout the course we will see how to dilute the paint, apply it with transparencies, progressively intensify the color and correct excesses without losing the original texture. Finally, we will unify and slightly age the tones with a new layer of shellac and protect the result with satin spray varnish.
